While Yoga is popular for its physical aspects there are also followers who practice its spiritual side.Yoga has been around for over 5,000 years. Yoga originated in India and is also a big part of the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Yoga was developed to help a person become one with his or her body. Yoga translates into “unite” or “union” and that’s what purpose of Yoga is: to train your body to become one with your mind.
As Yoga is as old as it is, there are many different types of styles to choose from. There are the “original” or “traditional” forms of Yoga. These styles are almost, if not, exactly the same as they were when they were created by their founders.
Using these ancient breathing patterns and postures, traditional Yoga is perfect for anyone who is willing to learn new things and who wants to change his or her body and mind for the better. The postures and breathing techniques will help anyone who wants to strengthen his or her muscles as well as making his or her body more flexible. This type of Yoga is also great for stretching the internal organs and glands which is something that they would not do normally. This stretching helps free the toxins out of the organs and glands and helps detoxify the glands and organs making you a healthier person.
Other Yoga styles have been created outside of India and in the last few hundred years to the present. These Yoga styles are known as contemporary Yogas. The contemporary Yoga still has all of the positive benefits of the traditional Yoga, but has been created with the way the world is today in mind.
The contemporary Yoga incorporates new postures to help combat things that hurt us in today’s world like bad car seats and too much alcohol and bad food.
Research the styles you think you may be interested in and go prepared with questions. Also, if you have any medical issues like a bad back, arthritis, high blood pressure or heart problems, make sure you let the teachers know before you begin your practicing.
While Yoga is safe for almost anyone, it is imperative for your teachers to know if you have any medical issues that may limit your ability to perform some postures or breathing exercises. But for the most part, Yoga, either traditional or contemporary, is a wonderful way to get your body and mind into shape.
